Brought mum to her medical appointment and while she was at the clinic, I went to buy breakfast at McDonald’s Singapore. Browsing through the menu at the self-service kiosk, I noticed that they have this Scrambled Egg Burger 2x Value Meal (S$12.40) which comes with two Scrambled Egg Burgers, two hash browns and two hot beverages.

The Scrambled Egg Burger with Sausage paired light, fluffy scrambled eggs with chicken sausage patty, glazed buns and yummy mayonnaise. While Scrambled Egg Burger with Chicken came with luscious scrambled eggs, crispy chicken patty and creamy mayonnaise. Sis got her black tea but I topped up S$1 and change mine to a small Ice Milo drink.

At one time many years ago this Castella Cake (鸡蛋糕) frenzy took us by storm. Then many brand names from Malaysia and Taiwan opened branches in Singapore to compete with local bakeries churning out different flavours of such cakes. To get attention, some stalls even gave out free cakes to customers on their official opening day which in turn attracted long queues. As the novelty worn off, the queues disappeared and many such shops shuttered, leaving survivors like Baker Talent (パン達人) still going strong. Sis bought the Pandan Castella Cake or Taiwanese traditional cake (古早味蛋糕) as the shop called it. The texture is so fluffy soft with pandan flavour and an eggy profile to it.

Brought mum to Causeway Point for shopping and had an early dinner at Food Republic. Ordered the Beef Tendon & Tripe Noodles Soup (S$11) from The Hong House Beef Noodles as mum enjoyed it the last time she had it.

I myself went for the Chicken Katsu Omelette Original Curry Rice (S$8.40) from Washoku Goen. It came with an omelette blanketing the white rice and topped with a deep-fried breaded chicken cutlet. The other half of the plate is filled with Japanese curry gravy and potato cubes. The chicken is both crispy and succulent and the curry seasoned more toward savoury and spicy rather than sweet which is a good thing for me.

Breakfast started off with two mini Red Bean Buns (S$1.20 each) from Ho Kee Pau (和记包). I remembered it used to cost just S$0.80 before the COVID-19 pandemic. Price increase aside, the velvety and sweet red bean paste is still as good as ever enclosed in fluffy soft bun. Best eaten hot after steaming it.

Two small buns is not going to fill me up so I had this box of Economy Rice (菜饭) a couple of hours later for brunch. Came with steamed egg custard, curry chicken and okra stir-fry with white rice.
